What is Rigid-Flex PCB?
A Rigid-Flex PCB is a hybrid circuit board that combines rigid and flexible substrates into a single structure. It consists of multiple layers of rigid PCBs connected by flexible circuits, allowing for 3D bending, folding, and dynamic movement while maintaining electrical connections.
Structure of a Rigid-Flex PCB
  • Rigid Sections - Made of FR-4 or other rigid materials. Houses components (ICs, resistors, connectors).
  • Flexible Sections - Made of polyimide (e.g., Kapton) for bendability. Thin copper traces for conductivity.
  • Adhesive/Bonding Layers - Holds rigid and flex layers together.
  • Coverlay - Protective coating (like solder mask) for flex areas.
